”Connect with Tree People, Natives believe they are all around us”

Welcome to mine & Wayne’s journey into Silversmithing and into SweetGrass Studio!

I chose this name as SweetGrass represents peace, beauty, happiness, healing and spirituality. It attracts all that is good to you! 🌿

I wanted to follow in the footsteps of my bloodlines and Ancestors and learn this ancient skill. Silver resonates with our Grandmother Moon. It is favoured by many artists for its purity. We use Pure & Sterling Silver depending on the piece we create.

Our style is in tradition with Native American work and does not feature a high shine. We use a patina finish which highlights our hand stamping, patterns and turquoise settings. Darker areas are normal and characteristic of handmade Sterling silver using patina. This may fade over time depending on your skin acids.

Our pieces are handmade by us so they are “rustic” they aren’t “perfect”.

What they are is filled with passion, determination and uniqueness!

Each is stamped .925 where possible and all are genuine.

Our Turquoise originates in the South West USA from either Nevada, Arizona, Mexico Mines & Tibet/Asia. Natural turquoise always contains surface indentations and multi coloured hues, this ensures it’s the real deal and not fake!

This beautiful Sand Hill Turquoise features pale mint green hues with light chocolate earthy marbling patterns. It’s totally gorgeous energy to wear!

We use the Navajo tradition to set our Turquoise. We NEVER use glue.

I recommend never wearing your Turquoise in the shower or swimming. It does affect the stone quality over time and it will dull the surface. Having said this, I wash my hands often wearing my rings and I have never had issues. Just dry them thoroughly and NEVER EVER use hand sanitiser or harsh chemicals on them. A polishing cloth is your new best friend.

Turquoise is a stone of high regard to Native Americans and has been used extensively in jewellery, beadwork and pottery.

Navajo and Zuni Native Americans believe turquoise to encourage rain. They would throw the stone into the river whilst praying to the spirits.

Metaphysically it has healing energy for bringing calm to our minds, helping lethargy and easing depression with it’s peaceful energies. It may ease respiratory problems and allergies.

It is believed to bring good luck, safe travels, spiritual protection and is a Talisman to be worn when creativity and ambition are needed.

Turquoise is Symbolic of good fortune, it also holds protective energies to its wearer.

Enjoy and thank you for reading and for your support always, Kelli 🏹xx
